How to Connect AlpacaRelay to Shopify

2 minutesVisit AlpacaRelay.com and sign up for a free account. No credit card required. Choose your workspace name (typically your school or institution name) and confirm your email address. This takes approximately 2 minutes. Once confirmed, you'll land in the AlpacaRelay dashboard where you can begin integrations. Your account automatically includes access to the Email Quality Framework (EQF) and quality scoring across all connected platforms.
Navigate to Shopify Integration Settings
1 minuteFrom your AlpacaRelay dashboard, click Settings in the left sidebar, then select Integrations. Locate Shopify in the platform directory and click Connect. You will be prompted to authorize AlpacaRelay to access your Shopify store. AlpacaRelay requests read access to: customers, products, orders, collections, and checkout data. These permissions enable real-time syncing of student enrollments, course purchases, digital product licenses, and transaction history. No write permissions are requested—your Shopify store data remains secure and unmodified.
Complete OAuth Authorization and Data Mapping
3 minutesYou will be redirected to your Shopify admin login. Sign in with your store credentials and review the OAuth permissions screen. Click Authorize to allow AlpacaRelay access. You will return to AlpacaRelay where data mapping begins automatically. AlpacaRelay maps Shopify data fields to standard email segments: customers become contact records, orders become transaction events, products become product catalogs, and collections become audience segments. Educational institutions benefit from automated mapping of course purchases, student lifecycle stages (new enrollee, active learner, course completer, inactive student), and tuition-related transactions. Syncing uses webhook-based real-time updates for orders and customers, ensuring your email campaigns respond instantly to new enrollments or purchases. Polling occurs every 6 hours for historical product and collection data. There is zero performance impact on your Shopify store.
Create Your First Quality-Scored Email Campaign
10 minutesOnce data syncing is confirmed, click Create Campaign. Select a template or start from scratch. For education integrations, popular first campaigns are: welcome sequences for new students, course enrollment confirmations, post-course completion follow-ups (including review requests or upsell opportunities for additional courses), and re-engagement campaigns for inactive students. Build your email using the drag-and-drop editor. Add dynamic content blocks that pull from your Shopify data—for example, insert the student's first name, the course title they enrolled in, or recommended next courses based on their purchase history. Review Quality Score and Launch

Your email receives an Email Quality Score (EQS) between 0 and 100. Scores of 80+ indicate campaign-ready quality. If your score is below 80, AlpacaRelay provides specific recommendations—for example, 'Add personalization to subject line' or 'Increase CTA button size for mobile.' Make adjustments and re-score. Once satisfied, click Launch. Your email is delivered immediately to your audience. All subsequent sends are quality-scored before delivery, ensuring every student communication meets institutional standards.
