How to Connect AlpacaRelay to Shopify
Create Your AlpacaRelay Account
2 minutesStart by signing up for a free AlpacaRelay account at alpacarelay.com. No credit card is required. You'll receive a confirmation email within seconds. Log in to your dashboard and navigate to Settings in the left sidebar. This is your control center for all integrations and email campaigns. The free tier gives you immediate access to the 8-Dimension Email Quality Framework (EQF) for scoring every email before it reaches your subscribers. Your account is ready to connect to Shopify as soon as you verify your email address.
Authorize AlpacaRelay in Shopify
3 minutesIn your AlpacaRelay dashboard, go to Settings > Integrations > Shopify. Click Connect to Shopify. You'll be redirected to your Shopify admin login. Enter your Shopify store URL (e.g., yourstore.myshopify.com) and authenticate. Shopify will ask you to authorize AlpacaRelay to access specific permissions: read customer data (name, email, phone, address), read product information (titles, descriptions, prices, images), read order data (order status, items purchased, totals, timestamps), and read collections (to enable product recommendations). These permissions are read-only from Shopify — AlpacaRelay never modifies your store data. After you authorize, you'll be redirected back to AlpacaRelay with a confirmation message. The connection is live immediately.
Configure Data Mapping and Sync Preferences
5 minutesOnce connected, AlpacaRelay displays your synced data fields. You'll see: Customer Data (email, first name, last name, phone, billing address, shipping address, customer lifetime value, date joined, total orders, total spent), Product Data (product ID, title, description, featured image, price, compare-at price, collections, tags, inventory status), and Order Data (order ID, order date, items, quantities, totals, fulfillment status, payment status). By default, all fields sync in real-time via webhooks — when a new order is placed or a customer updates their profile, AlpacaRelay receives it within seconds. You can customize which data fields you want to use. For most Shopify merchants, the default configuration works perfectly. Toggle on any fields you want to exclude (though this is rarely necessary). Sync status shows a green indicator when data is flowing. There is zero performance impact on your Shopify store — the integration runs on AlpacaRelay's infrastructure.
Create Your First Quality-Scored Email Campaign
10 minutesNavigate to Campaigns > New Campaign in AlpacaRelay. Select Shopify as your data source. Choose your audience: Abandoned Cart, Recent Customers, All Subscribers, or a custom segment. AlpacaRelay imports your Shopify contacts into the campaign builder. You can now compose an email using the template editor or AI-assisted copy generation. Add personalization tokens like {first_name}, {product_name}, {cart_total}, or {days_since_cart} to insert dynamic Shopify data. For example, an abandoned cart email might read: Hi {first_name}, you left {product_name} in your cart ({cart_total}). Complete your purchase in the next 24 hours and get free shipping. Once you draft the email, click Preview to see how it renders on desktop and mobile. Every preview is scored across the 8-Dimension Email Quality Framework (EQF): Deliverability, Mobile Render, CTA Clarity, Personalization Depth, Visual Hierarchy, Copy Effectiveness, Brand Consistency, and Structural Compliance. Your email receives an Email Quality Score (EQS) from 1-10. Emails scoring 8+/10 recover 14-18% of abandoned carts versus the 5-11% industry average.
Review Quality Score, Approve, and Launch
5 minutesBefore sending, review your Email Quality Score on the campaign summary. AlpacaRelay displays your score and explains which dimensions are strong and which could be improved. For example: Deliverability 9/10 (SPF/DKIM configured), Mobile Render 8/10 (consider slightly shorter subject line), CTA Clarity 10/10, Personalization Depth 7/10 (add more dynamic fields), Visual Hierarchy 9/10, Copy Effectiveness 8/10 (test this subject line against an alternative), Brand Consistency 9/10, Structural Compliance 10/10. You can make quick edits to improve your score, or approve and send as-is. Once approved, you choose your send time: Immediately, Scheduled (date/time), or Triggered (e.g., send 2 hours after cart abandonment is detected). For abandoned cart emails, triggered sends perform best — the email arrives while the customer is still thinking about their purchase. Click Send to launch. You'll see a real-time dashboard showing delivery count, open rate, click rate, and revenue recovered. This entire flow — from account creation to live campaign — takes approximately 15 minutes on your first run.
