Create Your AlpacaRelay Account
3 minutesSign up for a free AlpacaRelay account at alpacarelay.com. No credit card required. During onboarding, you'll choose your primary use case (automation, lead nurture, transactional emails, etc.). This selection helps AlpacaRelay pre-configure the 8-Dimension Email Quality Framework scoring rules specific to your email type. Once your account is active, you'll land in the Dashboard. Navigate to Settings > Integrations to begin connecting Zapier.
Authorize AlpacaRelay in Zapier's App Store
2 minutesIn Zapier, search for 'AlpacaRelay' in the App Store and click 'Connect.' Zapier will redirect you to AlpacaRelay's OAuth authorization page. You'll be asked to approve three permissions: (1) Read Contact Lists — allows Zapier to pull your contact segments and custom fields from AlpacaRelay; (2) Write Email Campaigns — permits Zapier to trigger and schedule emails from your Zaps; (3) Read Quality Scores — lets Zapier access Email Quality Score (EQS) data so you can build conditional workflows based on email compliance. Click 'Authorize' and Zapier will confirm the connection. The OAuth token is encrypted and stored securely—AlpacaRelay never sees your Zapier API key.
Map Your Data Fields and Set Quality Scoring Rules
5 minutesOnce connected, navigate to AlpacaRelay Settings > Integrations > Zapier > Field Mapping. Here, you'll define which data from your Zap (contact name, email, custom properties, event triggers) maps to AlpacaRelay contact fields. For example, if your Zap pulls 'first_name', 'email_address', and 'purchase_total' from Stripe, map those to AlpacaRelay's Name, Email, and Revenue fields. You'll also set your quality scoring preferences: Choose your email type (Welcome, Promotional, Transactional, Nurture, Re-engagement) so the 8-Dimension Email Quality Framework applies the correct scoring weights. AlpacaRelay will default to blocking emails scoring below 6/10 EQS to protect your sender reputation. You can adjust this threshold (allow 5+, 6+, 7+, or 8+ only). Save your mappings—they persist across all future Zaps.
Create Your First Zap and Trigger an Email
8 minutesIn Zapier, create a new Zap with a trigger (e.g., 'New Row in Google Sheets,' 'New Customer in Stripe,' 'Form Submission in Typeform'). In the Action step, select 'AlpacaRelay > Send Email.' Map your trigger data to the email template fields: recipient email, subject line, body content, and any personalization tokens (e.g., {{first_name}}, {{company}}). If you don't have a template yet, AlpacaRelay will auto-generate one using AI—you'll review and approve it before the Zap goes live. Once configured, test the Zap by triggering the action manually. You'll receive a test email showing how it renders across desktop, mobile, and dark mode.
Activate Quality Scoring and Monitor Performance
4 minutesBefore turning your Zap live, enable AlpacaRelay's Email Quality Score analysis. In your Zap settings, check the box 'Run AlpacaRelay Quality Check Before Send.' This ensures every email is scored across the 8-Dimension Email Quality Framework—evaluating Deliverability, Mobile Render, CTA Clarity, Personalization Depth, Visual Hierarchy, Copy Effectiveness, Brand Consistency, and Structural Compliance—before it reaches any inbox. AlpacaRelay will attach the EQS score (0-10) to each sent email record. Turn on your Zap and monitor the AlpacaRelay Dashboard > Campaign Analytics. You'll see real-time data: emails sent, EQS average score, open rate, click rate, and bounce rate. Emails scoring 8+/10 typically outperform lower-scored variants by 18-24% in open and click metrics. After 50-100 sends, review the quality score trends and adjust your templates or data mapping if scores consistently fall below 7/10.
