How to Connect AlpacaRelay to Shopify
Create Your AlpacaRelay Account
Sign up for a free AlpacaRelay account at alpacarelay.com. No credit card is required to start. During onboarding, you'll be asked to select your primary e-commerce platform — choose Shopify. This selection pre-configures your account settings for Shopify data structures (products, orders, customers, abandoned carts). Your account is activated immediately and you can proceed to the integration step within seconds.
Authorize AlpacaRelay via OAuth in Shopify Admin
Log into your Shopify admin dashboard and navigate to Settings > Apps and Integrations > Develop Apps. Create a new private app called 'AlpacaRelay' and grant it the following scopes: read/write access to products, orders, customers, and fulfillments. Copy your API key and access token. Return to AlpacaRelay, go to Settings > Integrations > Shopify, paste your credentials, and click 'Authorize.' AlpacaRelay will immediately verify the connection. You will see a green confirmation: 'Shopify connected successfully.' This one-time authorization takes approximately 90 seconds.
Map Your Shopify Data Fields
Once authorized, AlpacaRelay automatically imports your Shopify customer list, product catalog, and order history. Review the data mapping on the 'Data Sync' dashboard. You will see fields like customer email, first name, last name, customer lifetime value, product title, product SKU, order status, and cart contents. No manual mapping is required — AlpacaRelay handles this automatically. However, you can customize which fields appear in your email templates by toggling them on or off. For example, if you want to exclude product images from your abandoned cart emails, you can disable the product image field here. Data syncing begins immediately via webhooks; new orders and abandoned carts update in real-time.
Create Your First Quality-Scored Email Campaign
Navigate to Campaigns > New Campaign and select 'Abandoned Cart Email' as your template type. AlpacaRelay populates the email template with your Shopify data: customer first name, abandoned product images, product descriptions, and a dynamic cart recovery link. The template is pre-built with best-practice layouts, clear CTAs, and brand consistency markers. You can customize the subject line, email copy, and call-to-action button text. As you edit, the Email Quality Score (EQS) updates in real-time on the right panel. Your email is automatically evaluated across the 8-Dimension Email Quality Framework: Deliverability, Mobile Render, CTA Clarity, Personalization Depth, Visual Hierarchy, Copy Effectiveness, Brand Consistency, and Structural Compliance. Aim for an EQS of 8+/10 before sending.
Activate Quality Scoring and Send
Once your email reaches an EQS of 7/10 or higher, the 'Send' button becomes active. Click 'Schedule Send' to choose your send time (e.g., immediately, or at optimal send time based on customer behavior). Before deployment, AlpacaRelay runs a final quality check ensuring your email meets all 8 dimensions. You will see a summary: 'This email scores 8.2/10. Based on similar campaigns, you can expect 39-42% open rate and 10.8-12% click-through rate.' Click 'Confirm and Send' to deploy. Your abandoned cart email is now live and will automatically send to any customer who abandons a cart going forward. Real-time delivery reporting is available on your dashboard.
